MASTER BEDROOM SUITE
This master suite was located by the builder in a separate corner of the house making it very private for the owners. The owner chose a richly stained
4-poster bed, a bachelor’s chest, side table and desk along with a large armoire for this large space.

To warm the room a bit, we chose a very light green for the walls and dressed the bed with a beautiful large red floral. A wicker and wood settee flanks the bottom of the bed and a cherry red, small square raised textured print covers the seat cushion adding warmth and comfort. The same comfortable fabric was used to cover the cushion on the window seat. Throw pillows of gathered silks, large floral cottons and coordinating fabrics sit generously on the bed, the settee and the window seat. Simple, off white cotton café curtains hang from the bottom half of the windows. A quilt especially made for a round table was placed by the bed and topped with glass to protect the quilt.

A large red needlepoint rug with a floral border secures the area of the master bed. Two off white chairs dripping with red trims and tassels, their skirts covered in a large floral pattern sit in front of the fireplace on another needlepoint rug. A demure oval footrest sits at the base of the chairs covered in a large floral with large bullion fringe. This room is for the exclusive use of the husband and wife and creates a sweet, light and restful place to get away from it all.

TIMELESS
This small, plain room was beautifully enhanced with fireplace embellishments using decorative trim. A mirror over the fireplace enlarged the space reflecting light from windows on an opposite wall. This mirror was encased in decorative woodwork and trim creating a feeling of historic relevance. Lighting was changed to wrought iron candlelight overhead and in sconces by the fireplace. Furnishings in soft neutrals, gauze window treatments and antiques accentuated the mood of this room which was designed around a beautiful oil painting by a local artist entitled "The Pearls".

Before & After

NURSERY
For a showhouse event, a small bedroom in an old farmhouse was turned into a sweet nursery. The designers at Village House commissioned three artists to help with the effort. The idea for the nursery was a garden representing new life, buds blooming into flowers. One artist painted the walls in a graduated spring green with a darker hue at the bottom and as the color rose up the wall, the color became lighter. The ceiling was painted as a gentle blue sky. This same artist purchased an old chest and painted it to reflect a garden in a Monet-style still life of flowers in a field. Another talented artist created a large canvas floor cloth painted to resemble a garden trellis with vines running freely through the trellis. A third artist chose a corner of the room and painted large flowers with a fence as if in a secret place.

Nursery Before

The nursery was finished with a Jenny Lind crib painted white with an eyelet lace bedskirt. A side chair was slipcovered in a spring green cotton fabric piped in white with an eyelet lace skirt and covered buttons. Eyelet lace was added to the inside back of the chair and fell into a V shape with a button covered in green cotton on the end. Using only tulip brackets, silky white fabric was brought up through the holders and large roses were pulled through the tulips. Extra fabric generously puddled on the floor. Stationary, board mounted shades in the shape of a V with a green cotton button on the end made from eyelet lace fell beneath the silk. Gentle spring flowers in acrylic water were used abundantly in the room and large stuffed animals and bunnies in cotton floral prints finished the room.

ROMANTIC
The Woodbury Cottage was a project of the Bedford Village Inn in that a large colonial house was moved from its original site to the back of the Inn and set on a new foundation. The rooms of the house were commissioned out to Designers to bring the rooms back to life. The designers at Village House chose the smallest room on the second floor. The room, barely 7'-0" by 11'-0", contained a closed and a raised base under which were two drawers. A single window hung at the end of the room. The idea for the room was a Ladies Berth. With a custom made mattress from the Inn (24" thick), bed furnishings were made to complete the berth. A yellow satin floral fabric covered the down comforter and pillow sham. Large European size pillows were covered in a sage linen fabric edged with large shirred piping in an ivory, floral sheer. Throw pillows covered in the satin floral and complimentary fabrics were edged with clear and green beading, ruffles of the floral sheer and cotton fringe.

Bedroom Before

A custom made vanity table was painted with a faux stone in ivories and pinks, topped with a glass cover under which postcards from the 1800's were randomly placed. A hand painted bowed-front chest was painted in black with roses and vines with a top edge of marble. Layers of fabric covered the window with a graceful cloud shade, sheer lace underneath and silk panels with French pleats sitting on a large, painted rod with elegant finials. The front of the berth was graced with long, floral lace sheers that could be pulled and closed for privacy. An antique sconce softly lit the inside of the berth to create a welcome escape from the world outside.

This room was a favorite of those who stayed at Woodbury Cottage, including ABC's Katie Couric and her family.

VICTORIAN
The daughter's room in an old farmhouse proved a challenge for her parents. A very small room with a large dormer allowed little space for the bare necessities. The wood flooring was in need of a finish and the owners chose to paint it. A light spring green was chosen for the flooring and to compliment it, a soft blue paper in a faux pattern of medium to light variations in color was placed on the vertical walls and on the large dormer. Long, floral cotton panels were set on the window and the same floral was used on the bed coverings. A complimentary floral was used on the pillow sham and accompanying accent pillows. The single, darkly stained Victorian bed stood out graciously against the soft green and blue tones. A large chest was placed on the opposite end of the room. A European armoire finished with rubbed wax was used in the room as closet space was not available. An antique rocker with a needlepoint back and seat sat in the corner.
